The Riverside andMercedes-Benz Cultural Center (formerly known as the Expo Performing ArtsCenter) with its shuttle appearance in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo Park, thecore area, adjacent to the Expo axis and the China Pavilion. The whole buildinguses a smart lighting technology, a UFO-like unique style turns out to be an"art sea shell." The main body of the 18,000 multi-functionalperforming space is not only able hold both large-scale celebrations orconcerts, but also to basketball games, ice show and even ice hockey games andother sporting activities.
The project is designed according to the 3Rs,that is, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Using a photovoltaic curtain wall system, river water source cooling system, pneumatic refuse Collection system, airconditioning condensation and roof rainwater collection system,program-controlled green sectionWaterirrigation system, and so many other energy conserving tools and mechanism, theperforming arts center is truly a "green ecological building." It’s air conditioning system usesriver water source hot springs, ice Storage and traditional hot water toconserve energy. It also uses six Accessen AC& AU series heat exchangersfor ice storage systems, river Water source heat pump systems and airconditioning hot water systems.
River water source heat pump system is the useof river water source heat pump system. How it works is that during the summer, the building heat will be transferred to the river water source as the watertemperature is lower. During the winter, using river water source to extractenergy, by using the heat pump. As the water source heat pump operating costsare low, the investment recovery period is short, hence the average cost of theservice cycle will be lower than the traditional air conditioning system.Groundwater, rivers and lakes can be used as a cold and heat source.
